Just as birds require both their wings to fly in the sky, similarly man needs both Jnaana (knowledge) and Karma (action without
attachment to the fruits thereof) to attain the highest goal of his life.

The path to transforming into a yoga guru is a lifetime process of learning and India, being the capital of yogic philosophy and spirituality, is the optimum location to develop a strong foundation of internal discipline. The Yoga Teachers Training Course (TTC) is a rigorous and transformative experience and at Upaya Yoga we ensure that the curriculum is fully comprehensive with assured personal attention to each student. Based on the gurukul system of imparting knowledge that prevailed in ancient India, this course helps students interact with their gurus in a constant learning process. The curriculum comprises of instructions in pranayama (breathing exercises), asana (yoga postures) yoga philosophy, meditation, saatvik diet and kriyas.

There is mixed purpose when we get a batch of students for yoga teacher training course. Some come just for the love of yoga and want to magnify their understanding of the practice and there are those who come with the aim of uplifting others by teaching. You never know where this journey of teacher training might lead you. Teacher training involves a great deal of detail in all their classes, where you can learn the right alignments and modifications with the help of assistants ever-present to guide you hands-on. Furthermore, this program is physically strenuous and promises to be quite a challenge for those seeking to push their limits. Most students in fact do say that the teacher training course is life changing. You’ll feel empowered by your physical stamina and being part of a supportive group helps you let go of emotional setbacks.  What better way to master something than teaching it. You will eventually realise that kriyas and pranayamas teach us the key to a blissful life, to live authentically and reach the end of your journey satisfied.

Ashtanga Yoga:

ashtanga-yogaAshtanga in Sanskrit means eight limbs, mentioned in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra. This technique of yoga contains harmonising the breath with a succession of postures. This process produces powerful internal heat and a plentiful, cleansing sweat that purifies muscles and organs. The result is enhanced circulation, a nimble and strong body, and a composed mind. Ashtanga Yoga contains different groups of asanas and teachings on vinyasa, drishti, bandhas, mudras, and philosophy. This is a great chance for students to practice and know their level of ability, in a supportive group environment and with the inspiration and guidance of a guru. Ashtanga can be a perfect foundation for home practitioners and also those who want to teach professionally once they know the arrangement of poses.

Hatha Yoga:

According to Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, there are eight limbs of yoga. Out of which only one involves postures (asana). Hatha means forceful or determined in Sanskrit. Hatha yoga includes a set of asanas (postures) that are designed to align your body. These postures are designed to line up the physical channels of the body so that energy can easily flow (especially in the spine). The word Hatha is translated as Ha- the Sun which is masculine and Tha- the Moon which is feminine, which in turn represents the balance in nature and also within us all. Through Hatha Yoga we can create balance and unite opposites. Hatha teaches us the balance of strength and flexibility in each pose. It has immense health benefits and is an efficient way to distress. The teachers at Upaya believe, Hatha to be a powerful tool for Self-realization and transformation, teaching them various techniques to master control over the body by skilful breathing and meditation practices.

Yoga Teacher Training In Rishikesh

Rishikesh is a city in India’s northern state of Uttarakhand, in the Himalayan foothills beside the Ganges River. The river is considered holy, and the city is renowned as a center for studying yoga and meditation. Temples and ashrams (centers for spiritual studies) line the eastern bank around Swarg Ashram, a traffic-free, alcohol-free and vegetarian enclave upstream from Rishikesh town.

Rishikesh has spectacular views of jungle-clad hills and is also the confluence of River Ganges and Chandrabhaga. The glorious attraction of Rishikesh is none other than the great River Ganges herself, running rapidly throughout the city. In ancient times, and still today, many yogis, rishis, sages and sannyasis are attracted to Rishikesh to practice yoga in this peaceful location. Since then Rishikesh has been known as the “Place of Sages”. Rishikesh is a holy town with many ashrams and is now world famous as the Yoga Capital of the world and every year during the month of March hosts the one week long International Yoga Festival.

Apart from spirituality, Rishikesh is also a hub for adventure activities such as rafting, camping, tracking, and bungee jumping.

In the evenings the beautiful Ganges Ceremony (Ganga Aarti) is organized at Parmarth Niketan and Triveni Ghat. The Brahmin Pundits (priests) performs Ganges Puja (ritual worship) with Vedic hymns, accompanied by the sounds of hands clapping and drums (tabla). Hundreds of people come to witness this Pooja and offer leaf bowls filled with flowers and small oil lamps to the goddess. The small sparkling lights of floating lamps and the auspicious atmosphere of the River Ganges creates a magnificent view and feeling that attracts many to join the prayer, even the visitors from outside India who can’t understand the Vedic songs.

Meet our team of teachers

This ttc gave me a good basic to start my work as a yogateacher. It showed the many different sides of yoga. The diversity of yogateachers was good, and there was a lot of knowledge to absorb. The body felt great after doing so much yoga in one month. It is nice that this ttc is for everybody, and everybody will get benefits of it, no matter if you are a starter or advanced. It was good to have this ttc as a basic, and be able to build further from her. – Saskia heringa tønne, Norway
